WHAT’S ON

Wooden figure of a mouse with tophat fishing

Sharmanka is a visually rich experience. The best way to experience its world is to come and see one of the shows in Glasgow! Each show features a selection of uniquely crafted kinetic artworks, enhanced by synchronised soundtracks and bespoke lighting designs. Hundreds of carved figures and pieces of old scrap perform an incredible mechanical choreography, telling the funny and tragic stories of the human spirit as it struggles against the relentless circles of life and death.

There are two shows to choose from. Check our the trailers and read the descriptions to help you decide which one you want to come to see first!

JOURNEY

Journey is one of Sharmanka’s two shows. It features a wide selection of kinetic sculptures including the most recent works by Eduard Bersudsky made in Scotland.  The much loved Titanic,  Forget Me Not,  The Loom and Rag N’ Bone Man are all featured in Journey.

This synchronised microcosm of mystical, mechanical creatures is popular with audiences of all ages.

Running time 45 mins.

For full age recommendation info and details about audience movement and access during shows please see details below.

WHEELS OF LIFE

Wheels of Life is a special show which features some of the earliest and most exquisite work created by Eduard Bersudsky in Russia.  It includes the gem of our collection, the Wooden Kinemats which were created in the Soviet Union era.  The show also includes a selection of the more recent works.

Wheels Of Life’s darker atmosphere and themes are more suitable for our older audiences.

CHILDREN’S POLICY / AGE RECOMMENDATIONS

Sharmanka has welcomed audiences of all ages for over three decades, with majority of younger audiences responding very positively to our shows. A lot of the children are fascinated and mesmerised by the experience.

Below are our recommendations, based on our experience with the younger audience, however we cannot guarantee a specific reaction and encourage to have a look at some of the images and video footage of Sharmanka’s work in action, so you know what to expect and to help you determine suitability.

Journey is not recommended for children under the age of 4. This is due to dark lighting and intermittently loud soundtrack.

Wheels Of Life show is not recommended for children under the age of 12. This is due to ‘darker’ themes & atmosphere of the show, as well as dark lighting and intermittently loud soundtrack.

If your child becomes unsettled to an extent that it disturbs other audiences’ experience, there is calm, brightly lit space available just outside our gallery to allow your child to recover before returning to the show.

Push Buggies / Prams are not allowed during the show. They can be left at the reception.
